Your region

Due to the history, in Castilla y León, different cultures left their traces in certain monuments: los Toros de Guisando (Ávila), Celtics; Segovia Aqueduct, Roman; San Pedro de la Nave (Zamora), Visigothic; San Miguel de la Escalada (León), Mozarabic; Gormaz Castle (Soria), Arab; San Martín de Frómista (Palencia), Romanesque; Burgos Cathedral, Gothic; Salamanca University, plateresque; Valladolid University facade, baroque. But, among all the representative monuments of Castilla y León, we must highlight the castles. That is why our region is called "Castilla".

In every season of the year, you can enjoy its incredible monuments. Our Camino de Santiago is internationally known and its historic-artistic significance goes beyond our region and even our country. The Ruta de la Plata, that historically was used to link the ports of Seville and Gijón, deserves a special mention. We can't forget the archaeological deposits of Atapuerca or Numancia.

Castilla y León, motor of great events of Spanish history has been cradle and home of distinguished celebrities in all the fields of the human activity. The emperor Teodosio el Grande, Alfonso VI, Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, Alfonso X el Sabio, María de Molina, Jorge Manrique, Pedro  and Alonso Berruguete, Isabel la Católica, Christopher Columbus, Santa Teresa de Jesús, Fray Luis de León,  Felipe II, Juan de Herrera, Miguel de Cervantes, Gregorio Fernández, Miguel de Unamuno, Antonio Machado or Victorio Macho are just a little sample of the celebrities variety that have developed their activities and knowledge in our lands through out the history.
